How we started
Great Lakes Givers began its journey in the heart of Michigan, where the founders recognized a critical gap in community support. Residents in many neighborhoods, particularly in areas like Flint and Grand Rapids, were eligible for various benefits like the Healthy Michigan Plan and Food Assistance, yet many weren’t enrolled. This insight sparked a mission to bridge that gap.
Through conversations with local families and social service organizations, the concept of a vehicle donation program emerged as the perfect funding mechanism to support our work. With a belief in a stronger Michigan built on community connections, we launched Great Lakes Givers. Now, vehicle donations fuel our efforts to ensure every neighbor knows about the benefits available to them, making a tangible impact on lives across our state.
Our mission
At Great Lakes Givers, our mission is clear: to connect Michigan residents with vital programs that can change their lives. By facilitating vehicle donations, we raise funds to support our free benefits-research service, guiding individuals to resources like WIC, LIHEAP, and the Family Independence Program. We believe that every Michigander deserves access to the support they need to thrive, and we work hard to make that a reality, one donation at a time.

Why this city
Michigan is home to diverse neighborhoods, from the bustling streets of Detroit to the rural communities of the Upper Peninsula. Unfortunately, many areas, including neighborhoods in Lansing and Saginaw, see significant enrollment gaps in programs like the Healthy Michigan Plan and Food Assistance. Our focus on these regions is critical because by connecting residents to available benefits, we can reduce poverty and improve quality of life for families. Our state is rich in resources, but many residents remain unaware of how to access them, and we aim to change that narrative.
Your vehicle donation can transform lives right here in Michigan. Help us reach your neighbors in need by contributing a car, truck, or van. Alternatively, if you're looking for assistance, don't hesitate to use our benefits finder. Together, we can ensure that every Michigander accesses the support they deserve.
